How It Works
What is a Calypta Flow?
A flow is a brief, interactive experience you can share with patients, members, or employees to help them make an informed health decision.
- 1
A short briefing
A series of cards presenting key facts, risks, and benefits of a specific health decision. Clear language, real data, and interactive simulations make the information memorable.
- 2
An open conversation
Recipients can chat with an assistant trained to answer questions thoughtfully and without judgment. They can ask about side effects, share concerns, and think out loud in a private space.
- 3
You get a summary (when enabled)
For clinical partners and subject to recipient permission, Calypta can provide a brief summary of the conversation, and of what concerns to discuss at the next visit.
You share flows via passes: single-use links that can be texted, emailed, or printed on a card.
Privacy by Default
By default, when a recipient redeems a Calypta pass, the link between sender and recipient is severed.
Here's what that means in practice:
- ✓ We don't know who they are. Passes don't require sign-in. We don't collect names, emails, or any identifying information from recipients.
- ✓ You can't see what they did. You'll see that a pass was redeemed, but nothing more. Not their answers, not their conversation, not whether they finished.
- ✓ We can't reconstruct the connection. Our system uses session tokens that are cryptographically separated from pass records. Even if compelled, we could not tell you which recipient redeemed which pass.
- ✓ PII is automatically redacted. Our systems detect and remove personally identifiable information (names, addresses, phone numbers) before storing any conversation data.
Because we don't collect or hold personal health information, our default mode is not subject to HIPAA. Privacy is built into the architecture.
For organizations that want more
Some organizations want to close the loop. You may need to know which patients engaged, or access conversation transcripts and summaries to inform future visits, and for quality improvement and research.
For these use cases, we offer a HIPAA-compliant enterprise mode with a Business Associate Agreement, opt-in consent workflow, and access to transcripts, summaries, and engagement analytics.
Our Ethical Commitments
Calypta flows use evidence-based techniques to help people understand their options and make decisions they feel good about. We take this responsibility seriously.
Transparency
We draw on behavioral science (motivational interviewing, implementation intentions, clear risk communication) because these methods help people to make informed decisions while respecting their agency and autonomy.
No dark patterns
We will never use deceptive design, manufactured urgency, or guilt to push recipients toward a particular choice. Our goal is that they leave feeling informed, not pressured.
Informed decisions, not coerced ones
We believe most people, given clear information and space to think, will make choices that are good for them. Our job is to provide that clarity, not to coerce or pressure anyone into a specific conclusion.
No reinforcement learning on outcomes
We don't reinforcement learning to optimize persuasion outcomes. While these approaches might seem superficially appealing, in practice they translate to “figure out whatever works, regardless of how.” We forgo techniques we can’t explain or stand behind.
Accuracy and humility
Our content presents mainstream scientific consensus, acknowledges uncertainty where it exists, and doesn't pretend risks are zero when they're not. We update our materials regularly as evidence evolves.
